How Much Money Does Scotty Kilmer Make On Youtube
While no one has looked into acclaimed car YouTuber Scotty Kilmer's monthly bank statement to figure out his exact wealth, estimates put him in the $10 million net worth ballpark. What makes Scotty Kilmer so popular is his funny and rather brusque way of talking and the ease with which his fans can interact with him. Plus the fact that he is very regular with new content means the subscribers to his channel have a lot to go through.
Of course, not everyone is a fan of his less-than-ordinary and one-off voice modulation and there are times it can get grating. But with over a billion views on his YouTube channel, his brand of car advice seems to have many takers, mostly because he calls himself a mechanic with over 51 years of experience.
Scotty's brand of YouTubing has enough fans to have earned him a $10 million nest through the years. Here's the story behind the man and his money-making skills.
The YouTube Story Of Scotty Kilmer
If you watch a Scotty Kilmer video, it would take you lots of time to sift through those darting eyes, his over the top voice modulation, speed of speech, and flailing hand gestures to truly get to the information.
Many believed that Kilmer's advice can be over the top and even harmful to cars in the long run, especially if you do not know what you are doing. Not every YouTube car channel is liked by all, and Kilmer's YouTube channel is one many love to hate.
Scotty Kilmer believes he knows everything there is to know about cars simply because he has been at it for the past 51 years. Despite critics, his channel has more than a billion video views on YouTube with over 3.58 million subscribers.
Kilmer's success can also be attributed to his video upload rate. He posts two videos every day in a regularized format on his YouTube channel. Monday is a tool giveaway video, Tuesday and Friday is auto repair, Wednesday and Sunday are for viewers' cars and modifications, while Thursday and Saturday are reserved for Q&A.
Whether you like him or not, there are plenty of takers for his brand of advice ever since he started his YouTube channel in August 2007. As Kilmer describes his channel, "never shown any sponsored content and proud of it, just the truth about everything (cars)".
An Emmy Award Winner
Scotty Kilmer was not always a YouTuber. After an uneventful childhood in Niagara Falls, Kilmer attended the University of Toronto in Ontario, Canada, and he also received a graduate degree from the University of Illinois. He moved to Houston at 23 years of age and decided to fix cars, just like his grandfather did.
In 1994, he published a book titled: Everyone's Guide To Buying A Used Car.
The popularity of the book also earned him a radio show on CBS, Houston called Crank it up with Scotty that ran from 1994 to 2004. Even more surprisingly, this show earned Scotty an Emmy in 2004 for "Best Interactive Car Talk Host".
Kilmer Is More Of A Motorcycle Guy
For a self-professed car guy, Kilmer isn't all that much into cars. He drives a 1994 Toyota Celica and a 2007 Toyota Matrix. This is quite unlike other YouTubers who earn the big bucks to buy the big cars. He has a clear dislike for many cars, from Mercedes-Benz to Chryslers, especially the Chrysler TC. Keeping in mind that the TC nearly brought Chrysler to its knees, he may have a point there.
On a personal level though, Kilmer is more into motorcycles, being a proud owner of a Triumph Thruxton.
The Road Ahead For Scotty Kilmer
Looking ahead, Scotty Kilmer is developing a car advice app called "Car Killer". The app would allow his fans to download advice and have it on the go for any kind of issues they face along the road. This is what he had to say to his fans on Instagram, "Just want to say thanks for all the years of support and continued support on all my new projects as well. The app is still being developed, it's been slowed due to the virus. Also, I just started a TikTok account, if you guys like my short videos and quick car advice, check it out, and follow…"
Other than being the most conscientious YouTuber, Kilmer also has two live podcasts that go up on Thursday and Saturday on AutoMaven called On The Road With Scotty.
The one thing that Scotty Kilmer knows about how to make money off the internet is to be very regular with posting content. And that is how, despite his literal rant videos, the man is worth $10 million.
